Starting Collecting...
Before buying your models it is important to choose a range of models to collect. Over the years, 'Matchbox' and 'Hotwheels' have produced Millions of models, so many infact it is impossible to collect them all! It is a good idea to gather some knowledge of what you want to collect and do some background reading.
If you are a young collector like myself, then young may want to select one of the more recent ranges produced by 'Mattel,' for the purpose of your price range. The current 'Miniature 1-75' range and 'Hotwheels Miniatures' are reasonably priced at 99p at selected toy stores and even cheaper at supermarkets. Also, at a slightly more expensive rate, the Superfast range is available at £1.99 a piece exclusively for Toys 'r' us and Toymaster.
On the other hand, you may be an adult collector, and may have a little more cash to spend. In that case collecting 'Regular Wheels' or early 'Superfast' models produced by Lesney in the early 50's all the way through to late 70's might be a more suitable choice. The highly acclaimed Hotwheels Redlines range could also be an option. However, the cheaper models mentioned above are just as desirable.
Once you have started your collection, it is a good idea to keep all your models in mint condition by keeping them in their boxes provided or displaying them in a dust-free display cabinet with a sliding glass door. Keeping a model in mint condition and retaining the boxes in as good condition as possible will increase it's value in years to come, for there is more and more demand for rarer models.
Remember collecting is a serious business but is there to be enjoyed. My advice to you is if you are not enjoying collecting move on to something else. Good luck collecting...
